Booking Activities

Generally we recommend you work with your hotel or AirBnB host to help you book activities.

Doing business in Troncones is small-town casual, so don’t expect confirmation emails, online booking or paper-trails.

Sunset Horseback Rides

#1 Activity

The #1 recommended activity is a sunset beach stroll.  Repeat daily. We rarely do much else. Check out the tidepools and watch out for sea turtle nests.

Swimming + Beach Access

Playa Troncones is an open-ocean beach, so it's important to be mindful of rip currents and waves. The beach features several rocky areas and outcroppings, but the best spots for rock-free swimming

  1. North near Casa Oasis

  2. South near El Chiringuito de Fran

  3. North in Casa Manzanillo Bay

Look for surfboard-shaped signs saying “Acceso Playa” signs for paths from the main street in Troncones to the beach

Surfing

Troncones Point is a fun reef/point that offers up a great left at the northern end of the beach and a right on the southern side. In between is some good peaky beach break. The waves here can be challenging to surf and break for up to 100 meters over a rock and sand bottom

There’s a public access between Casa Las Tejas and Casa Manzanillo (after the big hill, take the left turn off the beach road towards Troncones Point Hostel), but if you play your cards right, one of the many boutique hotels on the beach may provide access if you make an effort to view their properties or eat at their restaurants.

Troncones Beach Breaks:

Between the village of Troncones and Casa Oasis, there’s a 5 km (3 mile) stretch of crowd-free beach marked with rocky outcrops that encourage sandbars. These bars create consistent peaks when the conditions are right. These breaks happen on all swell directions and tides, for short, punchy rides over sand. Watch out for rocks in certain areas, and during summer. (Not for beginners) There are several bars up and down the beach so keep your eyes peeled for the bar of the week.

La Saladita

La Saladita (AKA Ubilam, Malibu mirrored) is an excellent left-hand point break that offers up some long, machine-like lefts perfect for longboarders when smaller and rippable when at size. The waves here are pretty easy to surf and break for up to 200 meters over a boulder and sand bottom. Think Malibu but a left, This spot is an absolute classic.
